Several members of extortion racket on Tuesday set fire to a passenger bus in Pakpattan apparently over the owner’s refusal to pay up.
The police report said that the transporter had refused to pay Rs200.
The incident took place at Chowk Jamal where Khagga and Dogar groups have allegedly been involved in extorting Rs 200 each from every passenger bus making a stopover.
The transporters said they had repeatedly filed complaints about the matter but the police have taken no action against the extortionists. On the other hand, the police admitted that several transporters have filed complaints against the racket, and insisted that they are taking action on the issue.
Transporters said that tension between the two groups of extortionists was brewing for quite some time. They alleged that Tariq Khagga, who is a member of Khagga group, is the cousin of a sitting MPA.
